Nope, it's not just you.
Burnout! Vicarious Trauma! Compassion Fatigue! They are all real. Yet we often write these off as the cost of caring. These past couple of years have taken a toll on all of us. Let's face it. None of us are coming out of the pandemic unscathed.
As helping professionals, we must recognize that self-care is not separate from our work. It is a non-negotiable. Students expect us to show up in the classroom each and every day. Clients depend on us to be there. And our own families . . .they need us, too. This summer do something for yourself so that you can, in turn, do for others. How we show up for ourselves impacts how we show up for others.
Show yourself a little kindness and compassion by enrolling in a summer cohort of Emotions Education 101. This 4-week virtual course is designed to strengthen yourSELF:
Choose to be part of the June 2023 or July 2023 cohort. The course meets over Zoom on four consecutive Mondays, 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM (EDT). Each week we will explore core emotions like fear, anger, sadness, joy and excitement. We’ll also learn strategies to help process big feelings in ourselves and others. By connecting and sharing our experiences in a safe/nurturing space, we will normalize our emotions, decrease our aloneness, and restore our resilience.
The structure of each class will be a mix of didactic learning, gentle experiential exercises, and small breakout room discussions. The course is based on Hilary Jacobs Hendel’s award-winning book It’s Not Always Depression and includes aspects of the courage-building research of Dr. Brené Brown.
June 2023 Cohort starts June 5, 2023 and runs for 4 consecutive Mondays.
July 2023 Cohort starts July 10, 2023 and runs for 4 consecutive Mondays.
To maintain the integrity and intimacy of the course, space is limited!
Pennsylvania educator will be awarded 10-hours of Act 48 credit upon successful completion of the course.
